Summary
Between October 20, 2025, at 12:12 AM PDT and October 21, 2025, at 8:01 AM PDT, Autodesk experienced a service disruption that had widespread customer impact across Autodesk cloud products and services, Autodesk self-service applications, Autodesk account, and Autodesk Partner web services. The incident was triggered by a third-party service provider outage that started on October 19, 2025, at 11:48 PM PDT. While the third-party service provider outage occurred in the US, global regions were also impacted as common services, such as product authentication for login requests, occur within the US region.

During the incident, customers experienced issues accessing and logging into Autodesk products and services, followed by periods of intermittent disruptions and performance issues while products and services began to recover at varied intervals during the recovery period.

Impacted Services

  • Autodesk cloud products and services as well as desktop applications with cloud-enabled features
  • Autodesk customer self-service applications (Autodesk account, Autodesk Support Center, Email & Phone Support, and Community Forums)
  • Autodesk account and related features, including user management, products, services, and reporting
  • Autodesk Partner web services including order fulfillment

Timeline of Events

  • On October 19, 2025, at 11:48 PM PDT, an Autodesk third-party service provider experienced an outage.
  • On October 20, 2025, between 12:12 AM PDT and 1:47 AM PDT, Autodesk customers began experiencing issues accessing and logging into products and services, and no online workflows were available. Services impacted included authentication, licensing, Autodesk account, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Fusion, and Partner web services.
  • On October 20, 2025, between 1:47 AM PDT and 3:01 PM PDT, the third-party service provider began implementing fixes and Autodesk services began to recover. Products and services that began their recovery process included Autodesk Docs, Autodesk Build, BIM 360 Docs, Fusion, and Autodesk account. Some Autodesk back-end services successfully failed over to alternate regions.
  • On October 20, 2025, between 3:01 PM PDT and 11:45 PM PDT, the third-party service provider restored services. Most Autodesk products and services recovered, except for those dependent on additional third-party service providers who continued their recovery efforts triggered by the initial outage. This resulted in some Autodesk customers continuing to experience issues with viewing and uploading files.
  • On October 21, 2025, between 12:30 AM PDT and 8:01 AM PDT, the remaining Autodesk products and services dependent on the additional third-party service providers fully recovered.

Root Cause

  • The incident was triggered by a third-party service provider outage that began on October 19, 2025, at 11:48 PM PDT. The subsequent impact and recovery timelines were compounded by further issues associated with integrated and dependent services provided by other third-party service providers who were also affected by the outage.
  • Failover actions did not execute successfully for all Autodesk products and services due to issues encountered during failovers and dependencies on third-party service providers’ infrastructure and systems that were also impacted by the outage.
  • Although high availability solutions were established for numerous products and services, an incorrect implementation of a third-party service provider was identified, necessitating additional recovery efforts that lengthened recovery timelines.
  • Existing monitoring and observability solutions lacked visibility into some critical workflows across products and services, impacting our ability to assess the full extent of customer impact during the service disruption.

Autodesk Actions
Autodesk has completed a post-incident analysis of the event and identified actions to be taken. These include the following:

  • Enhance multi-region resilience - Assess current regional failover capabilities and infrastructure to implement new multi-region resilience strategies based on product and service risk assessments to enhance reliability and availability across multiple geographic regions.
  • Improve system design resiliency - Reassess the architecture of essential systems and services to gain a comprehensive understanding of current configurations and identify areas for enhancement. This involves identifying single points of failure and determining actions to take to maintain regional autonomy and ensure global availability during disruptions, while factoring in dependencies on third-party service providers.
  • Enhance observability and response protocols - Implement improvements in procedures for monitoring and responding to issues impacting critical workflows for Autodesk products and services. This includes enhancing the monitoring practices for integrated and dependent services provided by third-party service providers.
  • Improve external communications - Enhance external communications published on the Autodesk Health Dashboard during incidents to effectively communicate the recovery status by products and services when recovery timelines may vary.

We apologize for the impact on our customers caused by this incident. We are using this as a learning opportunity to improve the future resiliency and availability of our products and services.
